IMPORTANT: DON'T READ IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED THE GAME BUT PLAN TO
I had the almost perfect ending. (it came natural, I didn't look anything up until after the end-credits)
Seriously here come the spoilers!I was very curious about the ending, since I saw so much rant about it. I never read what the issues were, 'cause I didn't want to spoil myself, but now that I'm finished, I read them. Or at least some of the critic.
And frankly, I disagre with most of it.
YES, it is completely unlogical for the Normandy to be on a Mass Relay transit at that point of time, and the crashlanding is unsatisfying.
YES it sucks, that all Mass Relays are destroyed. It's a reason to rant. Whithout the relays, life in the galaxy will be isolated in such a bad degree, that we could have also let the Reapers do their work in the first place. (remember: All the fleets are cuddled around earth, earth won't be able to sustain all those living beeings and it will take them decades to head back to their home worlds without the relays)
But that's about it.
I liked the part, where half-dead Shep crawled into the beam and than into the control room.
I liked the part where we had the argument with the Illusive Man. (maybe, 'cause I kinda liked him, even though he was a mass-murdering asshole; and in the end he shot himself in the head, because he realized he was being controlled and couldn't stop it. Spark of humanity in him, after all.)
I didn't like the choices. Well, I kinda did. And then again, I didn't. It's hard.
I think they were fitting. In the end, it's like real life - we don't always get the solution we would have whished for ourselves.
Of course, the best thing would have been to destroy the Reapers - and ONLY the Reapers - plus having Shep survive and the Mass Relays left intact.
But I guess Mass Effect needed a dramatic ending, one that weighed heavy. If we could've just done that, it would have felt good, but I think it wouldn't have made us think about it as much.
I spend about 5-10 minutes before I made up my mind which way to go.
Idealy I didn't want to kill Shep, but seemingly he dies no matter what, or evolves for that matter. (yes, I know, he breathes... I reloaded, and tested that on,e I did actually have access to what is considered to be "the perfect ending")
Because I had made peace between Geth and Quarians and defended the Geth's right to live ever since I met Legion, I didn't want to go for the kill-all-synthetics-option (and doesn't that include EDI, too? I couldn't do that!).
And I personally liked the *evolve* option, but my Shepard didn't (yes, I think differently, when I roleplay...

).
The galaxy wasn't ready for it and since I put so much energy into defending organic life, this wasn't an option.
Soooo I opted for choice number three: Sacrifice myself to control the Reapers and sending them away.
All in all, I could live with that (although I had promised myself, I wouldn't die argh!
(That's why I reloaded and took the Shepard breathes ending *cough*)).
CONCLUSION (still spoiling)I didn't like what happened to the oranic life, after my sacrifice.
But I was totally satisfied with the Illusive Man encounter and talk around etc at the end.
Sure, another, action packed ending like ME2 would have been cool, but this one is fine by me, too.
I can see that this ending has weaknesses, but I would never stomp it into the ground as hard as many players do.
I also can't see why some ppl had problems with the Kid. It was a logical visitation to me.
Someone said "They didn't even give us the 'I chose a form you are comfortable with'-platitude", well when I saw it, I instantly thought, it was Shepard who imagined the child. Maybe it even only existed in his head. Gawd does it HAVE to be explained? I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm a big fan of perfectly explained Sci-Fi, but this game is soooo great, the trilogy is sooooo awesome, how can something like "Why is the keeper a child?" bust the gaming experience for some ppl?
Righ, some say they don't want to replay, because in the end, everything's for nothing.
You wanna know what I have to say to this?
The journey is the reward!
